CIPRODEX® Otic & Ear Infections: Frequently Asked Questions

What is CIPRODEX® Otic?

CIPRODEX® Otic is a prescription ear drop with both an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory corticosteroid medicine used to treat certain types of ear infections caused by certain bacteria including Middle Ear Infection (Acute Otitis Media) in children at least 6 months of age who have tympanostomy tubes and Outer Ear Canal Infection (Acute Otitis Externa, known as “Swimmer’s Ear”) in adults and in children at least 6 months of age2.

Why does CIPRODEX® Otic have an anti-inflammatory in addition to an antibiotic?

An anti-inflammatory corticosteroid was added to CIPRODEX® Otic to aid in the resolution of the inflammatory response accompanying bacterial infection (such as ear drainage in pediatric patients with Middle Ear Infection with Tubes).

How does CIPRODEX® Otic Work?

CIPRODEX® Otic is an ear drop that contains two medicines, an antibiotic medicine called ciprofloxacin and an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid medicine called dexamethasone. It is used to treat certain types of ear infections caused by certain bacteria.

Who should not use CIPRODEX® Otic?

Do not use CIPRODEX® Otic if you2:

  • are allergic to ciprofloxacin, quinolones, or any of the ingredients in CIPRODEX. See the end of the Patient Information leaflet for a complete list of ingredients in CIPRODEX® Otic.
  • have an outer ear canal infection caused by certain viruses including the herpes simplex virus
  • have an ear infection caused by a fungus

How long should I take CIPRODEX® Otic?

The recommended dosage regimen for the treatment of Outer Ear Canal Infection and Middle Ear Infection with Tubes is four drops instilled into the affected ear twice daily for seven days. Do not stop using CIPRODEX® Otic unless your doctor tells you to, even if your symptoms improve2.

Need dosing and administration instructions? Check out our illustrated guides and the Instructions for Use.

Use the CIPRODEX® Otic Dosing Card (Download Coming Soon) to keep track of your doses.
