Located behind the eardrum, the middle ear is a small cavity that leads to the inner ear and the eustachian tube.
Pain and fever are rarely associated with Middle Ear Infection with Tubes. Drainage from the ear (called otorrhea) is typically the only symptom. The infection might also cause a bad smell from the ear canal2.
Unfortunately, 15% to 26% of patients with tubes still get Middle Ear Infections2.
