Follow these step-by-step Instructions for Use

Read the Instructions for Use that comes with CIPRODEX® Otic before you start using it and each time you get a refill.

There may be new information. This information does not take the place of talking with your doctor about your medical condition or treatment.

Roll the bottle of CIPRODEX® Otic between hands for 1 to 2 minutes

Wash your hands with soap and water.

Warm the bottle of CIPRODEX® Otic by rolling the bottle between your hands for 1 to 2 minutes. Shake the bottle of CIPRODEX® Otic well.

Remove the CIPRODEX® Otic cap. Put the cap in a clean and dry area. Do not let the tip of the bottle touch your ear, fingers, or other surfaces.

Tilt head to side and let drops of CIPRODEX® Otic fall into the affected ear canal

Lie down on your side so that the affected ear faces upward.

Hold the bottle of CIPRODEX® Otic between your thumb and index finger. Place the tip of the bottle close to your ear. Be careful not to touch your fingers or ear with the tip of the bottle.

Use 4 drops of CIPRODEX® Otic in the affected ear per dose

Gently squeeze the bottle and let 4 drops of CIPRODEX® Otic fall into the affected ear. If a drop misses your ear, follow the instructions in Step 5 again.

Stay on your side with the affected ear facing upward.

It is important that you follow the instructions below for your specific ear infection, to allow CIPRODEX® Otic to enter the affected part of your ear. Please see A for Swimmer's Ear or B for Middle Ear Infection With Tubes before continuing on to steps 9-11.

For patients with swimmer's ear, gently pull on the outer ear lobe to allow the CIPRODEX® Otic drops to enter the ear canal

A. FOR SWIMMER'S EAR

If you use CIPRODEX® Otic to treat swimmer's ear (outer ear canal infection):

  • Gently pull the outer ear lobe upward and backward. This will allow the drops of CIPRODEX® Otic to enter your ear canal

  • Remain on your side with the affected ear facing upward for 1 minute

  • Continue to step 9

For patients with middle ear infections, gently press on the tragus to allow the CIPRODEX® Otic to enter the middle

B. FOR MIDDLE EAR INFECTION WITH TUBES

If you use CIPRODEX® Otic to treat a middle ear infection and you have a tube in your eardrum known as a tympanostomy:

  • Gently press the part of the ear known as the tragus 5 times using a pumping motion. This will allow the drops of CIPRODEX® Otic to enter your middle ear

  • Remain on your side with the affected ear facing upward for 1 minute

  • Continue to step 9

If your doctor has told you to use CIPRODEX® Otic in both ears, repeat steps 5-8 for your other ear.

Put the cap back on the bottle and close it tightly.

After you have used all of your CIPRODEX® Otic doses, there may be some CIPRODEX® Otic left in the bottle. Throw the bottle away.

Remember, for both swimmer's ear and middle ear infection with tubes, administer twice a day for 7 days.

Important information about CIPRODEX® Otic:

  • Use exactly as your doctor tells you to use it

  • It is for use in the ear only (otic use). Do not use it in the eye

  • Shake well before each use

  • Do not touch your ear, fingers, or other surfaces with the tip of the CIPRODEX® Otic bottle. You may get bacteria on the tip of the bottle that can cause you to get another infection
